Fox Television's top-rated series 24 is secure for three more years, as its star Kiefer Sutherland has signed an 8-figure deal to continue with the show through May 2009. The deal makes Sutherland one of the highest-paid drama actors on television.

Variety reports that as part of Sutherland's new contract, he will establish a production company on the 20th Century Fox lot in Los Angeles to produce series programming for both broadcast and cable networks.

Sutherland, currently co-exec producer on 24, will be bumped up to exec producer for the upcoming sixth and seven seasons of the show. He shares that title with creators Joel Surnow and Robert Cochran, as well as Howard Gordon and Evan Katz.

While the deal with Fox is for TV only, Sutherland said he and the show's producers continue to believe in the idea of bringing the 24 franchise to the bigscreen. The earliest the feature film would begin shooting, however, is late spring 2007, Sutherland said and added that quality control is the chief reason a 24 feature couldn't shoot during the upcoming hiatus this summer. this is my first season of watching 24, so i don't want to overanalyze, but here are my first impressions (keep in mind i've never seen a full episode prior to yesterday):
* the isht makes james bond flicks look realistic. i know it's tv, but damn...
* i'm assuming none of these mofos are going to go to bed at all this season.
* the chick chloe is painful for me to watch. i dunno if she's too stoic, or just a horrible actress.
* everyone got something insubordinate or smart alleck to say, and we ain't even through the damn morning. i'd be smacking folks all damn day. do your job and shut up.
* my aunt made some "there's always gotta be one to make the family look bad" type comment against regina king's character. it kinda threw me off, because i figured that as minorities, her character is the one we need to root for. and here goes my aunt, ready to give us up to the slavemaster. tsk, tsk. i'm on episode 4, and this show already makes me view my family differently.
* everyone knows that calling the cops when the bad guys say "don't call the cops" is a one-way ticket to dumbassville. why the writers screwing this up?

Usually when a person takes a bullet to the neck and then stops moving, this is a sign that they are dead. I disagree...I was getting frustrated by the pussification of Jack's brother after he'd been built up to be such a criminal mastermind, but I should've known better. I really like the idea that they're just two sides of the same coin. Plus next week we'll get to see Papa Bauer kick some ass, which will be awesome.
