it helps man. even when i turn my sub off the speakers put out some nice bass and real good clarity. without an amp your new speakers will get that annoying static when you throw the volume up (not saying it wont do that with the amp, but you'll be able to go way higher).
you might even reconsider the sub situation because you'll have all your wiring done.

invest in a quality headunit after the speakers but before the amp.

since you have the alpine head unit, might as well get the type r or s series alpine speakers.. they're good

MB Quarts are great if you want to spend $300 on one pair of speakers. Honestly, I wouldnt bother. I went thru the whole "buy super expensive stereo equipment" phase in high school and bought some $800 Kenwood deck, expensive subs and speakers...and while it sounded nice, it wasnt a huge improvement over the next car I bought where I just got a bunch of mid line pioneer shit.

eh, if you got the dough to spare sure go with Quarts. They're great. I had a pair and they were nice. Overall, I wouldnt fork out the money for em because Im a cheap cheap son of a bitch.

CDT Audio is my shit and they have components that range from good to perfect. Check for their sales on their Ebay store, they often sell b-stock (minor appearance issues sometimes as small as a damaged box) with a full factory warranty and outstanding prices. MB Quart is good and as well as Boston. Also check for Focal, Diamond, Seas, Dynaudio etc. I had a set of Dynaudios that I turned around and sold on Ebay, I wish I would have kept them :(
